The Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) is recruiting for an Access Management Regional Engineer (Transportation Engineering Manager I) in the District 5 Office (Anne Arundel County). This position is open to anyone who meets the minimum qualifications listed below. The resulting list of eligible candidates will be used to fill this vacancy only.
NATURE OF WORK: The purpose of this position is to represent the State Highway Administration as a Regional Engineer/Development Manager, providing coordination with federal, state, county and municipal agencies as well as elected officials, citizens, developers and consulting engineers for all projects submitted through the development and permit review process. This position is assigned one of the districts of SHA to conduct regular coordination meetings with the county offices, meet on site with engineers and elected officials during the Traffic Impact Study (TIS) Phase, Pre-Permit Engineering Review Phase review process, and during construction. The Regional Engineer/ Development Manager is responsible for all developer projects located within the assigned district. This position requires management and supervision of a team of transportation engineers and consultants to investigate, implement, review and coordinate all plan reviews and correspondence for development. This includes coordinating private development and local government capital projects with SHA projects funded for planning, design and construction. This position coordinates with the District ADE Traffic, Construction, Maintenance, and/or Project Development for review of projects, construction inspection services for issued permits and/or utility permit issues. The position supervises, manage, facilitate, interpret and/or negotiate the application of guidelines, standards, practices, policies or regulations as they related to complex and challenging access and highway related improvements for developer and government projects. This position ensures compliance with sound engineering practices and applicable codes, regulations and specifications through the supervision of the District Access Management staff assigned to review specific projects.
Education: Possession of a bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited college or university.
Experience: Seven (7) years of experience in professional engineering.
1. Additional work experience in professional engineering, or in technical engineering at the journey level or above, may be substituted on a year for year basis for the required education.
2. Possession of a master’s degree in engineering may be substituted for one year of the non- supervisory experience. Persons currently registered as Professional Engineers in the State of Maryland, or in a state with comparable requirements, are considered to have met the education requirements
