The department of Ophthalmology is actively seeking a Temporary Research Associate. The incumbent in this position studies glaucoma damage mechanisms in furtherance of the University’s research goals. Moreover, the incumbent understands, interprets, and follows research protocols and procedures to ensure institutional compliance.

Core Functions:

Studies the damage mechanisms of retinal axons during development of glaucoma.
Monitors the development of glaucoma to prepare retinal tissue for in-vitro experiments and perform immunochemical staining of retina as well as confocal imaging.
Organizes routine laboratory activities, including ordering lab supplies, making chemical solutions, and managing experimental data.
Operates laboratory equipment, and contributes to laboratory maintenance.
Weighs and anesthetizes laboratory animals for experiments and maintains records on such animals relative to feeding and physical condition.
Performs a variety of assays, tests, and studies of a routine nature. Performs calculations to complete research test results.
Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field required
Minimum 1 year of relevant experience
Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:

Skill in collecting, organizing, and analyzing data.
Ability to recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems.
Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions.
